Home Decor Trends Spring 2022 : Spring Wallpaper

Whimsical Wallpaper from West Week LA & High Point Market

Trend Spot alert! Trends in wallpaper collections are cohesive at Spring design events across the country – noticeable during our team’s visits to West Week LA at The Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood and to High Point Market in North Carolina. (High Point Market is the crème de la crème of design shows in the US. (If you know, you know – stay tuned, I’ll be giving you the full scoop on the blog soon!)

Here is the trend overview from the wonderful world of wallcoverings:

Spring Has Sprung: Fresh Floral Wallcoverings

Spring is always the time we see more floral prints, but this year; large-scale florals are the rage! From the premium to the budget-friendly, textile makers like Osborne & Little and Rifle Paper are leading the way in the realm of florals. These are not your grandma’s chintzy florals. These are big statement-making blooms!

Moody Murals for Your Walls

If these walls could talk… they might croon like Lana Del Rey.

As an alternative to the expected bright, cheerful wallcoverings, Mooi premiered statement-making murals for Spring in moodier tones. If jewel or earth tones are a little more your jam, then you’ll want to keep these collections on your radar.

PRO TIP: Pairing a moody mural with a luxe crystal chandelier is an easy design recipe for an intimate space like the bedroom.

Poppy Color Palettes

Thibaut is an interior designer’s best kept secret - the line really runs the gamut when it comes to setting the mood of a space with print and color. They are a go-to resource for Easter-egg palettes, perfect for Spring. And the quality of the fibers make the colors extra vibrant.

PRO TIP: Utilizing vibrant and pastel palettes brightens up task-oriented spaces like laundry and small darker spaces like powder rooms.

Retro-Fab Prints

You may not know them by name but you’d likely recognize esteemed fabric house, Scalamandre, by their famous elevated zebra print. Usually rather ornate in style, this season they seem to be branching out into something different and more versatile: Their Dreams fabric and wallcovering is a retro fab nod to Surrealist and Abstract artists such as Miro`, Ernst, Dali` and Kandinsky.

PRO TIP: Focus on the quality of the material when working with patterns. A pattern that’s too trendy on cheaper material will look flat and age poorly, whereas a line like Scalamandre is able to elevate trends with quality fabrics.

As its name suggests, Tempaper specializes in removable wallpaper. It's a budget favorite for rentals, kids rooms, or Air BNB properties. Their XOXO Stace print was born of a collaboration with fashion house Alice + Olivia and speaks to my mid mod soul!

PRO TIP: Patterns like 'XOXO Stace' are great ideas for creating design “moments” as in a retail dressing room or to glam up a funky vacation rental, where “Instagrammable Moments” are a must!
